Police begin investigation as Rivers woman attempts selling son

The Rivers State Police Command has stated that it is currently probing an alleged incident involving a woman’s purported attempt to sell her five-year-old son in Port Harcourt.

Upon visiting the site of the purported crime, PUNCH learned that a woman named Onyinye brought the boy to a well-known market on Bishop Okoye Street in the Mile 3 area of Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Tension arose when some traders confronted Onyinye after uncovering her true intentions, which she attributed to hardship.

Doubting whether the child belonged to her, the traders apprehended Onyinye and escorted her to the police station to report the incident, resulting in her subsequent arrest.

One of the traders said, “The way I see the woman, I don’t think she is normal because of how she was acting.”

When contacted on Monday, spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the matter is being investigated.

She stated, “The woman was brought to the station by some persons who alleged she came to the market to sell her child.

“We are investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of the eyewitnesses’ claims. Meanwhile, the woman is still with the police.”
