Police begin investigation into killing of another lawyer in Imo

Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the recent killing of legal practitioner Garricks Anyanwu by unidentified assailants, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Henry Okoye.

While confirming the incident, Okoye assured that an official statement would be released upon the completion of the investigation.

Anyanwu was reportedly murdered in his hometown of Orodo, located in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, by suspected assassins. His decomposing body was discovered in a bush on April 5.

A family member, who preferred anonymity, mentioned that the deceased would be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, declining further comment. The family has approached the police with a sworn affidavit to facilitate the recovery of his remains for immediate burial.

This incident follows the murder of Nnaemeka Ugboma, a magistrate and former Chairman of Obudiagwa Customary Court in Oguta Local Government Area of the state. Ugboma was fatally shot by gunmen on February 2, 2023, while presiding over a court session. The assailants, reportedly riding motorcycles, targeted and killed the 55-year-old magistrate during the attack.
