The Anambra State Police Command has condemned the assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, by local vigilante operatives, describing the act as unacceptable and pledging to ensure justice.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief that the command would follow up on the case once the victim, currently receiving medical treatment, is available to pursue her complaint.
A viral video showed members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group beating Elobor, tearing her clothes and stripping her naked in Oba, Idemili South LGA, after falsely accusing her and colleagues of fraud despite her presenting identification.
Ikenga confirmed that Elobor escalated her complaint after being dissatisfied with the vigilante office’s handling of the case.
Anambra State Government also confirmed the arrest and detention of the vigilante operatives involved.
