The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that an armed robbery occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday along the Post Office–Murtala Mohammed Road in Ilorin.

Reports indicate that the driver of a Toyota Sienna was attacked by armed assailants, sustaining a gunshot wound to his palm, while an unspecified sum of money was taken.

In a statement issued on Friday in Ilorin, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, said the injured driver is currently receiving medical care.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and directed increased security measures across the Ilorin metropolis, including reinforced deployments and more visible police patrols to reassure residents.

He also urged residents to avoid carrying large amounts of cash and to make use of electronic and online transactions whenever possible.

“In cases where cash movement is unavoidable, he advised using trusted bank escort services,” the statement added.

‎The command further advised the public to report suspicious movements or persons around banks or financial locations immediately.

The incident raised serious concerns about safety of residents in the state capital considering that the attack occurred in the heart of the state capital.
