Police confirm gunmen attack on Sokoto immigration checkpoint

The police have verified that bandits launched an attack on an immigration checkpoint in Sokoto.

The incident took place on Friday night in the Gwadabawa area of the state.

According to ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the command’s spokesman, he confirmed the attack and reported that the gunmen, believed to be bandits, killed two immigration officers at the Mamman Suka village checkpoint in the Gwadabawa Local Government area.

Some of the attackers who were injured in the exchange of gunfire were taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital Sokoto for treatment.

Additionally, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i mentioned that the immigration officers recovered five rifles from the attackers, and these rifles are now being held at the immigration headquarters office in the state.

Furthermore, an anonymous eyewitness, who is a driver, confirmed that the gunmen, believed to be kidnappers, arrived at the Immigration checkpoint along Sokoto/Illela road on Friday at approximately 7 pm.

They shot two Immigration officers and kidnapped others during the attack.

Confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Immigration Service Illela Border Command, Bello Mohammed said, “We are currently in hospital please with the wounded, I will give you a call later.”

When called again, Mohammed said, “We are sorting out things to know the degree of the attack and the number of casualties” he said.
