The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Akaeze, a traditional ruler in the Umuihe autonomous community in Ebonyi State’s Ivo Local Government Area.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police’s public relations officer, confirmed the killing on Monday.

He added that the shooters stormed the community over the weekend and killed the first class monarch, and that the police reacted to a distress call about the incident after the hoodlums had already committed the act.

“When we received a distress call about the situation, we jumped into action. The assailants had already fled the area by the time our officers arrived, but we are pursuing them,” he said.

The police spokesperson said effort has been intensified to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous act.
