Police debunk viral fuel-scooping video

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims made in a viral video that allegedly shows uniformed officers scooping fuel from the wreckage of an overturned tanker.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was clarified that the individuals in the video are not NPF personnel. Instead, they are uniformed officers from a neighboring Francophone country, whose camouflage uniforms resemble those of the NPF.

The officers were also heard speaking French, rather than English or any Nigerian language, further confirming that they are not affiliated with the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement strongly condemned the circulation of unverified content designed to tarnish the image of the police. “Such actions not only undermine the integrity of the force but also have far-reaching negative consequences for the nation and its people,” ACP Adejobi stated.

He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, to upholding discipline, professionalism, and safeguarding the safety and security of all Nigerians. Any actions that tarnish the force’s reputation are considered unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The NPF also called on citizens to verify information before sharing it, to prevent the spread of misinformation and foster national unity.
