Police denies killing at Old Oyo National Park

The Oyo Police Command has reported that there were no fatalities during a shootout between suspected bandits and vigilante members inside Old Oyo National Park in Saki East local government.

While three members of the vigilante group sustained injuries, the police assured that active efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident occurred during a gun duel between armed bandits and local vigilantes in Sepeteri, Saki East local government area, leaving three individuals critically injured.

The occurrence, taking place within the confines of the Old Oyo National Park on Monday, instilled panic among the residents.

The clash, lasting for hours and marked by numerous gunshots, was only brought under control with the intervention of security forces.

It was reported that the community members mobilized in response to the bandit threat.

A statement by the spokesman of the Command, Adewale Osifeso said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that some local vigilante groups around the aforementioned location, while in pursuit of alleged abductors engaged the latter in a gun duel which led to the injury of three  vigilante members who were part of the team.”

“Consequent to the above, it is important to note that no life was lost and the injured are presently responding to the medical intervention availed to them at the hospital.”

“Furthermore, there has been an increase in the level of deployment of Police operational and tactical assets with other relevant security services in a bid to forestall any untoward occurrence(s) within the area and its environs.”

“While urging all law-abiding residents to go about their lawful business(es) without any fear or hindrance as the Police and other security agencies remain firmly on top of the situation, members of the public are encouraged to provide credible and timely information to the Police and other law enforcement agencies at all times to help nip crime in the bud.”
