The police say they have mobilised operatives to the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State after students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga were abducted by bandits.
The attackers reportedly invaded the school on Sunday night and took the girls away.
Sources said the assailants killed the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before capturing several students.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, 25 students were abducted during the raid.
Security Teams Mobilised
Abubakar said a combined force of additional police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes has been deployed to the area.
He added that the teams are currently sweeping the bandits’ escape routes and surrounding forest areas in an effort to rescue the abducted girls and apprehend those involved.
The statement said, “On November 17, 2025, at about 0400hrs, information received revealed that a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically, stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko district, Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State.
“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel.
“Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted 25 students from their hostel to an unknown destination.”
Vice Principal Killed
The police also confirmed the killing of the school’s vice principal during the assault.
“Similarly, one Hassan Makuku ‘m’ was shot dead while Ali Shehu ‘m’ sustained injury in his right hand,” Abubakar said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm, stay alert, and continue supporting security operations.
