The Bauchi State Police Command has deployed security personnel across the state ahead of the 2026 local government elections scheduled for Monday, August 17, promising adequate protection before, during and after the polls.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the command had implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the election is conducted peacefully, credibly and without disruption across the state’s 20 local government areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said officers had been strategically positioned to protect lives and property and secure electoral materials throughout the exercise.
The command warned politicians, supporters and other residents against engaging in electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying and selling, voter intimidation or any attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
It stated that anyone found culpable, including sponsors and accomplices, regardless of status or political affiliation, would be arrested and prosecuted.
Aliyu charged officers and other security personnel deployed for the exercise to remain neutral, professional and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties.
He also directed them to respect the rights of citizens and operate strictly within the provisions of the law during the election.
The police commissioner urged residents to come out and vote peacefully and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
