The police have detained a female police officer who was the aide-de-camp to the troubled former Kogi State Governor, Mr Yahaya Bello, on suspicion of being one of the security aides that hindered the former governor’s arrest in Abuja.
The ADC was arrested, along with other police officers assigned to Mr Bello. They are being held in the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja.
According to police sources, their arrests and custody were the result of an order from Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun requiring their immediate departure from the former governor.
According to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the officers were arrested on suspicion of knowingly assisting and abetted Bello’s escape from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigators who had gone to arrest him at his Abuja home on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the Inspector-General of Police ordered the departure of all police officers assigned to Mr Bello.
Mr. Bello has also been placed on the Nigeria Immigration Service’s watch list for conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The paper was signed by the Assistant Comptroller General of Immigrations, with copies to the Nigeria Customs Service, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Director of the National Internet Agency.
