Residents of Oyo town were again thrown into panic at the sound of an explosive which went off at the Medium Security Custodial Centre Oyo on Tuesday.
However, they later got to know that the Police Bomb Disposal Unit were responsible for the detonation of the explosive which was leftover material used by hoodlums who attacked invaded the facility on Friday night.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State Command, Lanre Anjorin, confirmed the detonation of the bomb to our correspondent.
The PRO said, “it is true but the bomb disposal unit of the.police were responsible for the controlled detonation of the material.
” Our officers discovered that there was an explosive planted outside the facility.”
Hundreds of inmates of the prison had fled following the Friday night deadly attack on the facility which led to the death of a soldier and an Amotekun corps.
However, many of those who fled had returned while others were later arrested and brought back to continue serving their punishment in the lawful custody where they were hitherto.
