Police dismantle Nigerian prostitution ring in Cyprus

Police are currently working to dismantle a Nigerian prostitution ring in Limassol, according to a report from CyprusMail on Wednesday.

Three women have been arrested with the support of the anti-trafficking unit.

The investigation began last year when a woman filed a complaint, initially presenting herself as a theft victim. However, during questioning, authorities suspected she was a victim of sex trafficking.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou confirmed the report, stating that the woman had been moved to a safe house after further investigation.

Andreou explained that the investigation took time due to the limited information the victim had about her traffickers’ identities.

The coordinated efforts of the police led to the arrest of a 44-year-old woman on October 9, suspected of involvement in the trafficking operation.

A second woman was arrested on October 18, followed by a third arrest on Tuesday involving a 33-year-old woman.

Two men remain wanted in connection with the case.

Andreou added that police have gathered significant evidence and expect to bring the case to court soon.
