The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rejected claims that suspected bandits delivered a threat letter targeting communities within the territory.

The police said the reports were fabricated by individuals intent on creating unnecessary fear and tension among residents.

The allegations surfaced on March 15 and 16, 2026, suggesting that a letter was sent through a student of a private school in Kungaboku Community, warning of planned attacks on the village and nearby Paze Community.

The reports further claimed the supposed threat was linked to the killing of a bandit leader during a recent security operation carried out by the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit alongside personnel from the 7 Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade.

In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh clarified that investigations showed the letter did not come from bandits but from individuals attempting to spread panic.

The command urged residents of Kungaboku and neighbouring Paze—both within the Federal Capital Territory—to ignore the message and stay calm.

“Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the Command wishes to inform the general public that the said letter originated from mischief makers seeking to spread fear and panic within the community for their mischievous purposes. The Command, therefore, calls on members of the affected communities and the general public to disregard the letter and remain calm. However, residents are enjoined to remain vigilant and security conscious at all times, ” the statement partly read.

Although the threat was dismissed, authorities confirmed that additional security operatives have been stationed around the affected areas to prevent any possible incidents and to reassure the public.

“The Command has also deployed personnel in and around the affected communities to forestall any possible attack and to further reassure residents of their safety and the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.

Adeh also encouraged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities, reiterating the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property throughout the territory.
