The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has disclosed that his sister, Atsi Kefas, was shot and killed by one of the police escorts travelling in the same vehicle.
He explained that a preliminary police report confirmed she died from severe gunshot wounds caused by shots fired by the escort.
Speaking at a town hall meeting to mark his second anniversary in office, Governor Kefas said the investigation remains ongoing to uncover the full circumstances of the incident and ensure justice is served.
He stated, “Let me share this, to show you my commitment: even in the face of personal tragedy—the loss of my sister, Atsi Kefas—I remain strong, because the call to serve you is greater than my pain.”
He urged attendees to observe a minute’s silence in honour of Atsi and those killed during the Karim Lamido crisis, praying for their souls to rest in peace.
“Although a preliminary report confirms she died from gunshot wounds caused by one of the police escorts, the investigation is still underway to ensure justice prevails,” the governor reiterated.
“This role isn’t about applause; it’s about legacy, the future, and serving you. Let us, with a positive spirit, move Taraba forward.”
He affirmed his administration’s commitment to performance and development, adding, “In the past two years, Taraba has stopped standing on the sidelines. We are now leading with discipline, technology, and sincerity.”
The governor also stated, “I am building a Taraba where governance is measured not by sentiment but by results. We are shifting from promises to outcomes; every programme must deliver real value to our people.”
This marks the first time Governor Kefas publicly addressed his sister’s death since reports emerged in December claiming she was killed by bandits on the Wukari-Kente Road.
