Operatives of the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have recovered the remains of a 52-year-old man, Chinedu Ezeani, who was allegedly killed and secretly buried by his cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani, in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The incident, which happened about eight months ago, was first treated as a missing person report until the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect provided a breakthrough in the case.
Police revealed that the suspect allegedly carried out the act on August 1, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. at his home in Afube Village, Amichi, where he reportedly killed the victim and buried him in a shallow grave within the compound.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect admitted to the crime during interrogation and later guided investigators to the burial site, where the body was exhumed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the remains have been taken to a mortuary for forensic analysis and noted that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigations are completed.
“The case, which was initially reported as a missing person incident at Amichi Police Station, was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Ikenga said.
In a separate development, the police have charged a 21-year-old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, for allegedly killing his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, in Fegge, Onitsha.
Ikenga disclosed that the suspect was brought before the High Court in Onitsha on March 18 alongside another 21-year-old, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who allegedly assisted in the crime.
Police said Anieke reportedly attacked his employer with a pestle, resulting in his death, and was also linked to an assault on the victim’s sister that same night.
Authorities further stated that more than N8 million belonging to the deceased was fraudulently transferred through a bank account allegedly supplied by the second suspect, with N6 million already recovered and presented as evidence in court.
Both suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility as the case continues.
The police reaffirmed their resolve to ensure justice is served, warning that criminal acts will not go unpunished.
