The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a suspected bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Government Area, recording another success in its ongoing campaign against crime.

The command said it received a distress call at about 6:30 p.m. on June 28, 2026, reporting the movement of a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles along the Kadisau–Sheme Road in Dandume LGA.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the area.

The security team engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the bush after being overwhelmed by the operatives’ superior firepower and tactical response.

The fleeing suspects abandoned two operational motorcycles and a machete, which security personnel recovered as exhibits.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

In a separate incident, the command arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband while he was asleep.

Police said that at about 9:00 a.m. on June 29, 2026, Jamilu Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Police Division that his wife attacked him with a knife at about 5:30 a.m. in an attempt to slit his throat.

The victim sustained a deep cut to the neck and was immediately taken to hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

Police operatives visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack.

The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue. She is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commending the prompt response of the DPO, VCRU operatives and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Fage, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The commissioner also cautioned residents against domestic violence, urging families to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

He appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enable swift action against criminal elements.
