The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the identity of the individual seen firing an AK47 rifle in a viral video at Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, who serves in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).

Inspector Kwanchi was captured in viral videos celebrating the reopening of the well-known Ladipo Market in Lagos State by firing shots from an AK-47. In response, the Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, swiftly initiated an investigation.

The Lagos Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday officially verified the inspector’s arrest in a statement posted on X, previously known as Twitter.

He stated that Commissioner of Police CP Idowu Owohunwa of the Lagos State Command has directed the prompt initiation of disciplinary measures against the officer due to his unprofessional, unethical, and hazardous conduct.

The police department reassured the public that it would not condone any misconduct by its personnel and would hold those responsible accountable according to established regulations.

The police had on Tuesday pledged to investigate the viral video, as affirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, saying “We will identify the man with AK47 and do the needful. Thanks.”
