Rights activist Omoyele Sowore appeared at the Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja on Monday for questioning regarding a recent viral video in which he alleged extortion by some police officers.

In the video, Sowore accused the officers of engaging in illegal activities along the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road in Lagos State.

The footage also captured an altercation between Sowore and the officers, who had flagged down the car transporting him to the airport and directed the driver to park.

The viral video stirred significant public reactions, prompting the police to summon Sowore for further investigation.

He arrived at the Force Intelligence Bureau accompanied by his lawyers and a group of supporters, who sang solidarity songs.

This encounter is not Sowore’s first interaction with law enforcement.

In September 2024, the African Action Congress (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate was briefly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos over alleged links to the #EndBadGovernance protests held in August.

Earlier, in February 2024, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out treasonable felony charges against Sowore after Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, filed a notice of discontinuance.
