The Ondo State Police Command has initiated an inquiry into the passing of a businessman, Sesan Adelabu, and his wife, Bolu.
Emirate, also known as Adelabu, purportedly took his own life at his residence in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, on Friday, following the alleged killing of his wife for reasons unknown.
Reportedly dealing in petroleum products, Emirate allegedly used a machete to end his wife’s life before consuming a liquid substance suspected to be insecticide.
According to a statement by Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer who previously confirmed the incident, Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipo has instructed the criminal investigation department of the command to launch a probe into the matter.
The statement read, “The state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case of alleged murder and suicide of a socialite and petrol station owner, Sesan Adelabu, popularly known as Emirate, and his wife, Mrs Bolu Adelabu.
“On February 9, 2024, a distress call was received by the police of A’ Division Akure. The officer attached to the deceased in his house in the Alagbaka area in Akure, received a call from the deceased’s child around 6 pm asking after his father because he (Emirate) was not picking up his calls.
“The policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face-down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.
“An empty container of insecticide was also found at the scene. An investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and the scene cordoned off to enable police to do the needful.”
