Police kill suspected armed robber in Ogun

Police operatives in Ogun State have neutralized a member of an armed robbery syndicate operating along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode axis of the state.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the robbers were active near Western University, just before the multiple bridges on the expressway.

“The Divisional Police Officer Odogbolu received a report that armed robbers had blocked the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode highway opposite Western University before the multiple bridge,” she said.

“Immediately, the information was received, he mobilised his patrol team in collaboration with patrol teams from Obalende and Amateko, who responded swiftly to the situation.

“During the encounter, one of the robbers was fatally injured, while others escaped through a nearby bush with bullet wounds, a gun was recovered from the scene, and the corpse of the neutralized robber has been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue.”

She added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, assuring that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.

Odutola also noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed intensified patrols and monitoring of the highway to guarantee the safety of commuters.
