Police officers in Enugu State, working with members of the state Neighborhood Watch Group, have killed a suspected member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Additionally, the security agencies retrieved his weapon, ammunition, and various pieces of evidence.

The police shared this information in a statement released on Sunday night, as confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

According to Ndukwe, the incident occurred on Saturday around 10:45 pm in Igbele village along the Amachala road in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. The suspect lost his life when he and his alleged group initiated gunfire against the security personnel.

The head of the police mentioned that this accomplishment was the result of innovative policing tactics developed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, with the aim of eliminating persistent criminals in the state.

He also noted that the personnel who participated in the operation were from the Igbo-Eze North Police Division of the Command and the specialized NPF Special Forces.

“One pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, three expended cartridges, objects suspected to be amulets, and one black (inscribed “Special Constabulary”) and yellow-coloured beret each was recovered from the neutralised member of the outlawed group.”

“The feat is consequent upon the operatives’ swift response to credible information on the wanton criminal activities of the renegades, who, in their numbers, blocked the road and opened fire on them.”

“The Operatives, however, tactically returned fire at a superior level, leaving many other members of the subversive criminal group escaping with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.”

Ndukwe mentioned that the Commissioner of Police (CP) expressed his appreciation to the team for their excellent performance and assured them of the Command’s dedication to maintaining the fight against persistent criminals.

Nevertheless, he made an appeal to the residents of Enugu State to keep backing the police in their efforts to cleanse the society and the state of criminal elements.
