Police kill three fleeing suspects in shootout

Three alleged kidnappers and armed robbers were fired down by Delta State Police Command agents after an exchange of fire in Ebrumede, Warri region of the state.

The suspects were flagged down by officers on visibility patrol near the Ogbolokposo region of the community.

Rather than stopping, the occupants leaped out and began running, opening fire on the security operatives, who replied quickly.

Three of the four fleeing suspects were killed in the process and were later confirmed dead at the hospital where they were transported.

DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the suspects’ deaths in a statement made on Tuesday, adding that one AK-47 rifle was confiscated.

Edafe also confirmed the arrest of two suspected armed robbers in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

He said one locally made cut to size gun was recovered from the home of one of the suspects, Musa Saliu (27) whose confession led to the arrest of the second suspect, Zulka Muhammed (29).

Edafe further confirmed the arrest of two suspected Indian hemp dealer in Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The suspects, Matthew Richard (32) and Sampson Mashama (37), according to Edafe run a notorious black spot where they deal on sales and distribution of illicit drugs and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said several packs and wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered.

The police image maker added that all the cases were still under investigation.
