Police launch manhunt for suspected rapist in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Promise, a suspect in the alleged rape of a 13-year-old minor in the state.

According to reports, the culprit assaulted the kid in the Uwa section of the state’s Oredo Local Government section until she was unconscious.

It was learnt that the suspect lured the minor into his room, raped her and abandoned her in her unconscious state, and absconded.

The state command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, verified the event.

He said the divisional police officer in charge of Adesuwa Police Station, Benin, received a report of defilement on March 27 from the mother of the victim who resides along Uwa Street off, Sapele Road Benin.

According to him, the woman reported at the station that her 13-year-old daughter was raped to a state of unconsciousness by one Promise whose surname was yet to be known.

He said the victim was rushed to the Edo State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

He said, “I can confirm that the police got a report of defilement. One promise was said to have raped a 13-year-old girl to a state of unconsciousness and has since run away.”

Chidi said efforts were ongoing by the police to arrest the fleeing suspect and bring him to justice.
