On Monday, the Kano State Police Command announced that it had launched a manhunt for certain people who had yelled insults at the Kano Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Sunday.
Muhammad Gumel, the state’s commissioner of police, revealed this while briefing press in Kano.
According to Gumel, the affected individuals disrupted Sunday’s opening of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, which is close to the Emir’s palace.
Provocative statements against the Emir who attended the ceremony were allegedly chanted by the protesters, who were believed to have organized themselves in an unsettling manner.
They yelled phrases like “new governor, new Emir,” saying that because a new government was in place, Governor Abba Yusuf should dismiss the Emir and install a new one.
Gumel stated that the police employed technology to identify those involved and added that more persons, including their sponsors, would be found.
He said, “Those people were not invited to the event. They were intruders who came on their own, and they must have been sponsored by somebody or a group of persons.
“Six persons have been identified. We used technology to track them down. We are still analysing the video footage, and we are making efforts to arrest all those involved. We are also making efforts to get their sponsors.
“Traditional institution is a respectable institution; anybody who messes around with the traditional institution is a saboteur and an enemy of the state.”
Gumel added that throughout the previous three months, no fewer than 100 penitent criminals had turned themselves in to the police in the state along with their firearms.
