The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended 21 suspects for their attempts to disrupt the recent local government elections held on October 19, 2024.
The arrests were carried out by police officers from Operation Fushin Kada, who acted quickly to thwart the planned obstruction of the electoral process.
In a statement, Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, reported that the suspects, identified as political thugs, were arrested while trying to block transportation routes and disrupt the distribution of election materials. Their actions targeted the ad-hoc staff of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission assigned to oversee the logistics of the election.
He noted that several exhibits, including sharp weapons and hard drugs, were recovered from the suspects.
According to the police, the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court once investigations are completed to determine any potential links to other individuals or groups involved in the attempted disruption.
Meanwhile, the new Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has praised the officers of Operation Fushin Kada for their swift response. He urged citizens to remain law-abiding and continue cooperating with the police as they work to maintain peace in the state.
