The Kano State police command reported the arrest of 392 individuals suspected of looting the NCC Industrial Park during Thursday’s nationwide hunger and hardship protest.
The suspects were also connected to looting incidents at the Kano High Court and other locations.
While briefing journalists on Friday, police spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa stated that the suspects were found with numerous stolen items.
The newly built NCC park, which was scheduled for commissioning next week, was looted and set ablaze by hoodlums during the unrest.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes at the ICT center, where protesters were seen stealing desktop computers, chairs, keyboards, and other valuable items before setting the facility on fire.
In response to the violence, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf declared a 24-hour curfew across the state on Thursday.
“We are deeply concerned by the turn of events and are taking all necessary measures to restore order. I urge all residents to remain indoors as security agencies work to enforce the curfew,” Governor Yusuf said.
