The Katsina State Police Command has announced the arrest of a recently married woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband just three days after their wedding in Jibia Local Government Area.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, the groom was discovered in a pool of blood at his home in the Tashar Buja community and was later pronounced dead at a medical facility.

Aliyu explained that a report was lodged on November 23, 2025, indicating that a newly married man had been found unresponsive with a severe neck wound in his residence. Officers were dispatched to the scene, and the victim was taken to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. He added that a suspect, believed to be the deceased’s wife, has been detained as investigations continue.

Residents said that the groom, known locally as Dan Gaske and formally identified as Abubakar, had married the suspect, Zainab Muhammad, only on Thursday before the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Community members claimed that the bride attacked the man while he was asleep and later visited a neighbour to request food, raising suspicions among local women. When they accompanied her back home, they found the groom lifeless.

Relatives of the deceased rejected claims that the marriage had been imposed, stating that the couple had enjoyed a harmonious relationship prior to their wedding.
