Police nab driver for stabbing LASTMA officer

Police operatives from Iponri Police Station, Lagos, yesterday, arrested a driver of a painted Volkswagen ‘T4’ commercial bus marked LSR 966 YE, for stabbing an official of the state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The driver was earlier stopped for causing traffic obstruction by LASTMA operatives around Costain round-about, Lagos.

LASTMA officer, Olajide Olukoga (a.k.a Bravo), who led the enforcement team, said the Volkswagen commercial ‘T4’ bus was apprehended for picking passengers on the main expressway, thereby causing serious traffic obstruction to other road users around Costain inwards Iponri.

According to him, the enforcement was carried out after several warnings to drivers to use designated bus-stops before picking or dropping passengers.

He said: “Our enforcement team had successfully apprehended the driver despite dangerous driving attempts to escape before he brought out a knife and stabbed me.
“After seeing the deep cut he had inflicted on me with the knife, he decided to strip himself naked and caused serious commotion before he was eventually arrested by officers from Iponri police station.

“After his arrest, dangerous weapons, including a machete and knife were recovered from the bus by security officers.

Olukoga said the driver would be prosecuted immediately, to serve as a deterrent to others.
