The Borno Police Command has announced the arrest of four individuals for suspected illegal mining activities within the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahun Daso, this disclosure was made in a statement issued on Thursday in Maiduguri.

Daso explained that the suspects were apprehended while in possession of 70 bags containing various solid minerals suspected to be monoxide. The arrests took place on March 24, and the suspects were found with a diesel tanker truck.

The individuals were reportedly captured by troops from the 331 Battalion in Bayo Local Government Area before being handed over to the police.

The spokesperson further revealed that the suspects have admitted to their involvement in the illegal activity, and investigations are ongoing.

Upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged in court.

Borno, known for its abundant mineral resources such as feldspar, limestone, kaolin, potash, iron ore, quartz, magnetite, diatomite, trona, mica, silica sand, gypsum, granite, flutters earth, and uranium, among others, holds significant potential in the mining sector.
