Police nab four robbery suspects in Lagos, recover stolen car, two pistols

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Response Team (IRT) of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Force Headquarters Annex, Ikoyi, Lagos have busted a four-man robbery gang in Ikorodu, for allegedly snatching a Toyota Sienna and an iphone 12 from victims around Gbaga area of Ikorodu town and fled.

The police identified the arrested suspects as Ishola Obaro Sunday,24; Samuel Junior, 21; Idris Akeem, 21 and Mudashiru Jelili, 21.

According to the police, the incident occurred on 16 July, 2024 at about 22:30 hours when the suspects trailed and double-crossed the victim at Gbaga area of Ikorodu, shot into the air to scare people away, dragged the owner of the Toyota Sienna out of the car, robbed him of his car and iphone and zoomed off.

The police further alleged that while the robbery was ongoing, a good citizen sent a distress call to the IRT stationed in Ikorodu, Lagos who swiftly swung into action and went after the robbery suspects.

The Police team trailed the suspects through intelligence gathering and arrested them at a hideout in Ikorodu and recovered the stolen car and phones.

Items also recovered from the suspects, according to the Police, included two locally made pistols.

The suspects were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island on a two-count bordering on armed robbery.

Police Counsel, Amedu Adoga told the court in the charge marked B/30/2024 that the defendants committed the offence on 16 July, 2024 at Gbaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

Adoga informed the court that the defendants violently robbed the owner of the Toyota Sienna and phones and fled before they were trailed and arrested.

He said the offences, the defendants committed, were punishable under section 411 and contrary to section 297(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The plea of the defendants was not taken as the lower court has no jurisdiction to entertained robbery matters.

Magistrate B.A Sonuga ordered the police counsel to duplicate the case file and send it to the office of the Department of Public prosecution, DPP, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos for legal advice.

Sonuga adjourned the case pending legal advice.
