The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has arrested four suspects and recovered firearms and ammunition during coordinated operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda.

The raids, conducted between April 14 and April 18, also led to the arrest of a suspected cultist and a vigilante member linked to an accidental shooting that left three people injured.

Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said the успех stemmed from “sustained intelligence-driven and proactive policing strategies” aimed at tackling cultism and illegal arms possession.

In Mowe, officers arrested a suspect found with a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms. “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity,” Babaseyi stated.

In a separate operation along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road, another suspect was intercepted with a firearm and multiple cartridges. According to Babaseyi, the suspect “could not provide a satisfactory account of the firearm” and was taken into custody.

A third suspect was later apprehended in the same area with a double-barrel gun and additional ammunition.

Meanwhile, in Odeda, a vigilante member allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally, injuring three individuals. Police confirmed that “The victims were promptly taken to medical facilities, where they received treatment and are currently in stable condition, responding well to treatment.”

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operation and reaffirmed the command’s stance, saying, “The Command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism and other violent crimes.”

Residents were also urged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
