The surveillance team of the Anambra State Police Command successfully apprehended a lone gunman at a well-known hotel (whose name is being withheld) in the state capital, Awka.
As per DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police, the suspect was apprehended when the police operatives noticed his suspicious behavior while he was at the hotel premises.
Ikenga said, “The operatives, who observed the suspect prowling around the premises on July 20, 2023, accosted him and conducted a search on his person.
“One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.
“The suspect, who gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate the source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.”
Furthermore, the spokesperson mentioned that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be brought before a court of law to face charges.
