Police nab killers of Gov Diri’s in-law, monarch in Bayelsa

Police in Bayelsa State have apprehended suspects involved in the murder of 50-year-old Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha, an in-law to Governor Douye Diri, as well as the Paramount Ruler of Kalaba Community, HRH Kolibo Amabelimo, and Community Development Committee Chairman, Samuel Oburo.

The killings occurred in Kalaba community, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

The police identified three individuals allegedly responsible for the murders: 32-year-old Gideon Atama, 49-year-old Bethlehem Nwanlia, and 33-year-old Clever Ovo.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, disclosed during a media briefing in Yenagoa that one of the suspects, Perekebi Nwanlia, is deceased, while Gideon Atama and Bethlehem Nwanlia remain at large.

However, the third suspect, Clever Ovo, currently in police custody, confessed to being part of the notorious Endurance Amagbein gang.

The Commissioner further noted that the gang leader has been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for the killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South, Delta State, in 2024.

Additionally, another gang member, Gideon Atama, was arrested in possession of a mobile phone and wearing army camouflage, fully dressed as a soldier.

He said: “Upon a close check on the phone, pictures of assorted rifles and voice notes of their previous operations were unraveled. They also went further to mention sponsors in the vandalization of installations and facilities in the region.”

Also, the Police attached to the Labrado Security house boat at Igbikiba in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have arrested a 200-year-old boat captain, Danile Williams, involved in alleged cases of pipeline vandalization.

According to the Police, the suspect is allegedly involved in the recent attack on Tebedaba-Brass trunkline at Lakosogbene community in Southern Ijaw local government council.
