Police nab man allegedly advocating for violent protest in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with a video he posted on TikTok that incited violence related to the planned nationwide protest.

According to a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, Sleiman Yakubu, a 34-year-old resident of Jos North, was tracked down and arrested on Ahmadu Bello Way on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a reliable informant.

Part of the statement reads, “The attention of the command was drawn to the video putatively emanating from a TikTok account, identified as “dam-mallam68”.

“The suspect in the video was seen assertively inciting the public  to attack security operatives and burn down critical state and private infrastructures in plateau state as part of the activities for the protest.”

“Based on the strength of the information, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, sets tactical assets of the command on motion to trace and apprehend the source of the mischievous video.”

As a result, the suspect, tracked down based on intelligence reports, has confessed to being the creator of the inciting video.

The police commissioner reiterated that the force will vigorously counter any attempts by troublemakers to disrupt the state, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace before, during, and after the protest.

He urged citizens to adhere to the law, avoid making provocative statements that could jeopardize peace and security, and report any suspicious activities to the police.
