The Kwara State Police Command has taken into custody a man named Adeola Badru for allegedly defrauding a federal political appointment aspirant of N300 million.

According to Adekimi Ojo, the Kwara police commissioner, who briefed journalists in Ilorin this week, Badru is facing allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretence.

In 2023, he allegedly approached his victim, Joseph Olugbenga, presenting himself as an experienced politician with strong connections to top political leaders.

Badru is said to have promised Olugbenga a position on the board of the South West Development Commission in exchange for N300 million.

Believing his assurances, Olugbenga reportedly paid the amount in instalments.

After collecting the money, the suspect fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and cut off all communication.

Police operatives eventually tracked him to his hideout, where he was arrested. During questioning, Badru allegedly admitted to the offence.

The command confirmed that he will be arraigned once investigations are completed.
