The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested Nasuru Dawan Jiya on allegations of supplying arms to bandits.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said the suspect was apprehended on September 15 by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

He explained that the arrest took place during a routine patrol along the Gummi–Sokoto Road, when police intercepted a Toyota Corolla carrying passengers from Sokoto to Gummi.

“Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle at Gambanda Godabe village in Gummi LGA, the team recovered the following items, concealed inside a bag of oranges belonging to one Nasuru Dawan Jiya:

“Four AK-47 rifles, two hundred (200) rounds of live PKT ammunition, twenty-eight (28) rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, four (4) empty AK-47 magazines.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect, Nasuru Dawan Jiya, confessed to transporting the arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Gurusu village,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson said investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other accomplices and dismantle the network behind the crime.
