Police nab seven over protest in Kano

The  Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of seven individuals who were protesting the Court of Appeal’s verdict upholding the removal of Governor Abba-Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Confirming the arrest on Wednesday night, Mr. Hussaini Gumel, the State Police Commissioner, stated that the seven demonstrators were apprehended in the vicinity of Kano Line as they were making their way towards State House Road.

“We have succeeded in stopping the protesters and we have arrested seven of them.”

“We have deployed armed policemen in the area; we have since commenced an intensive investigation and we will update you in due course,” Gumel said.

The police chief urged residents to carry on with their legal activities, assuring them that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had implemented sufficient security measures to prevent a repeat of the incident.

“I am appealing to residents not to hesitate to report to the nearest security outfit any person or group of people engaging in any form of protest in and outside the metropolis for prompt action”, Gumel said.

According to reports, some youths suspected to be supporters of the NNPP took to the streets in Kano on Wednesday protesting the appeal court judgment that sacked the governor.
