The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the recent attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was reportedly carried out by suspected hoodlums.

This development was confirmed in a press statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, and made available to Channels Television on Wednesday.

According to Ukandu, Commissioner of Police CP Anthonia Uche-Anya promptly deployed the command’s tactical team to the community, tasking them with identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

During the operation, one of the suspects was captured while attempting to flee the area. The arrest was made possible with the cooperation of residents from Nkalaha and Eha-Amafu, who assisted in detaining the suspect before handing him over to the Isi-Ụzọ Police Division.

SP Joshua Ukandu revealed that the arrested suspect, during interrogation, provided critical information about others involved in the attack. Acting on this intelligence, operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command raided the hideout of the hoodlums responsible for the assault.

During the raid, other assailants fled the scene, but the operatives recovered several items, including three locally made single-barreled guns, a police uniform, a pair of jungle boots, army camouflage shorts, and combat trousers.

Ukandu stated that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, urging anyone with valuable information that could lead to their arrest to come forward. He reassured residents that the police are committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property, encouraging the public to disregard rumors of insecurity and continue their lawful activities.

Meanwhile, community reports indicate that at least 15 bodies have been recovered from the scene of the attack, with many individuals still unaccounted for.
