Police nab two for alleged illegal weapons manufacturing in Benue

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended two individuals, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, for allegedly operating an illegal weapons manufacturing facility.

The arrests followed a coordinated operation that uncovered an illegal weapons factory at Tse Akamabe in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday, revealed that the raid led to the recovery of nine locally fabricated pistols, one unfinished locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vise machines, a filing machine, and numerous other tools used for weapon manufacturing.

In a separate operation, police operatives attached to the Delta State Command, acting on credible intelligence, raided an apartment in DSC belonging to 32-year-old Prosper Akeni, an alleged hitman and member of the Eiye confraternity.

During the raid, officers recovered a cache of weapons, including one English revolver pistol, one Beretta pistol, two locally made double-barrel guns, two locally made single-barrel guns, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single-barrel pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect confessed that the recovered firearms belonged to his cult group and were under his custody as the leader of the group.

Additionally, on December 31, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, police operatives arrested 25-year-old Yunusa Haruna from Bakin Turu Village in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State for allegedly fatally stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in the chest with a sharp knife.

In another incident, police arrested Abubakar Ummar in Zuru Village on January 8, 2025, for allegedly stabbing Mohammed Bala during an argument, leading to Bala’s death.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their achievements in the fight against crime and criminality. He urged officers to intensify efforts to restore peace and order across the country.

The IGP also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and share useful information with law enforcement to support a community-based policing system.
