Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested two suspected armed robbers in the Abagana area.

The suspects, identified as serial offenders, are also wanted for alleged rape and armed robbery.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra Command, identified the suspects as Chukwuma Diji, also known as Sympathy or Chi-boy, aged 35, from Obinagu Umudun Village, Abagana, and Micheal Edochie, also known as Mikel, aged 31, from Eziabunabu Umudun, Abagana.

According to Ikenga, the duo allegedly raped a married woman in Obinagu Abagana and fled the community when security operatives attempted to arrest them.

They were apprehended by police operatives on Saturday, nine days after breaking into an apartment and raping a young lady and her friend at gunpoint.

“The criminals later forced one of the victims to transfer money to his account after they took turns of sex with them. Chukwuma and Micheal both confessed to the crime,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command, CP Nnaghe Itam has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a Comprehensive look to get justice for the victims of the alleged crime.”

Items recovered from the suspects included two locally made double-barrel guns, one locally made single-barrel gun, six live cartridges, and one Q Link motorcycle.

Police authorities have stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
