Police neutralise dreaded kidnap kingpin in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Wednesday neutralized a notorious kidnap kingpin and sea pirate whose criminal activities included kidnapping, murder, and causing widespread havoc in the state.

The kingpin, identified as Ubong Archibong, also known by the alias “Condiment,” was the leader of the Bling Marine Strike Force, a gang that terrorized the Uruan/Oron waterways.

He was responsible for several high-profile crimes, including the kidnapping of High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet. Archibong was also behind the gruesome killing of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd and the kidnapping of his sales representative.

Additionally, the suspect was involved in the kidnapping of Pharmacist Joemel and Brown, the Chief Executive Officer of Mingles Hotel.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Command, ASP Timfon John, the suspect was neutralized during a gun battle with police operatives at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State.

He said, “One G3 riffle with four live ammunition was recovered from the suspect. The corpse of the suspect was recovered and deposited at the morgue. Investigations with full intent to arrest other members of the gang are ongoing. ”

Meanwhile, the command has reassured the people of Akwa Ibom of its commitment to making the state a safe and secure environment for business and daily life.

The police urge residents to report any suspicious activities and movements, emphasizing their dedication to serving with the highest level of professionalism.
