Police officer in custody for allegedly murdering businessman at checkpoint in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that the corporal responsible for the shooting death of an Aba businessman has been detained.

In a statement, Moureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, disclosed that the police corporal involved in the shooting has been detained and will face appropriate disciplinary action.

She extended condolences to the victim’s family and assured them of their inclusion in future investigations into the incident.

According to reports, Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, a resident of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area, was driving home along Aba-Owerri Road on Wednesday when he was stopped at a police checkpoint and asked for money, which he allegedly refused to give. An altercation ensued, leading to the fatal shooting by the police officer.

Despite being rushed to a hospital in the commercial metropolis, Okocha succumbed to his injuries on Friday night, despite efforts to save his life.
