A police orderly (name withheld) has been shot and killed in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred on Friday night near the prominent Landmark hotel on Olu Obasanjo road.
When the male police inspector was escorting his principal, he was fired at, and the assailants fled in a grey 2005 Toyota Corolla automobile.
The assailants allegedly stole the inspector’s AK-47 gun and beret.
Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence in a brief statement.
“Effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover the rifle,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson said the corpse of the inspector has been deposited at the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt for autopsy.
