Police raid black spot, nab 307 suspects in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s tactical units, as part of the recently initiated Operation Velvet, conducted a raid on a known trouble area, Gidan Dambe, situated in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, resulting in the apprehension of 307 suspects.

In a statement released on Monday by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Command reported the recovery of an English Pistol along with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition from an individual named Ibrahim Tukur, who asserted to be a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Adeh further mentioned that additional items such as motorcycles, packages containing marijuana, illegal substances, and items suspected to have been unlawfully taken from innocent residents were also seized.

While the suspects are still undergoing screening, CP Benneth Igweh, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, who personally oversaw the operation, informed the public about Operation Velvet, which commenced on 10/02/2024. This operation involves all tactical units of the Command aimed at curbing vehicular criminal activities and other offenses in the Territory.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of professionalism among officers and cautioned against extorting residents, reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing the security of the populace.
