The Delta Police Command has announced the recovery of weapons and ammunition in Ekpan Community, located in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, conveyed this information in a statement issued in Warri.

Edafe explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, received credible intelligence regarding the activities of criminals in Ekpan, Warri, and the surrounding areas.

Following this information, the DPO personally led a surveillance team from the division to track down the suspects.

“The DPO swiftly responded to this Intel and trailed the hoodlums to their hideout behind NIGER-CAT.

“However, upon sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels, they were chased but to no avail,” he said, adding that an intensive search was conducted around an uncompleted building and in the process a certain sack was found.

He further mentioned that upon inspecting the sack, weapons were discovered inside.

“Exhibits recovered from the hoodlums include one AR rifle, two magazines, 75 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and one locally made cut-to-size gun.

“Others are four rounds of live cartridges; one Awka-made Beretta pistol and one round of 9mm ammunition,” he said.

The spokesperson mentioned that ongoing efforts are being made to identify and capture the suspects who fled. He also noted that the operational activities implemented during the ember months by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wale Abass, are proving effective and yielding results.

“This is a result of the crime-preventing strategy adopted by the CP to achieve a crime-free yuletide and beyond,” Edafe said.
