The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered explosive devices and ammunition from a scrap depot in the Kudandan area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mansir Hassan, explained that police officers made the discovery after receiving intelligence about suspicious items seen at a scavengers’ site on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis.

According to Hassan, the suspicious materials had arrived in Kaduna mixed with waste transported from Borno State. A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, led by its commander, was immediately sent to the scene.

“After careful examination, the items were identified as unexploded military-grade ordnance bombs,” the statement confirmed.

The EOD team promptly evacuated the unexploded ordnance (UXOs) to a secure location, where they will be safely destroyed according to standard safety procedures.

During the operation, officers also recovered a locally made revolver pistol loaded with six rounds, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, three live cartridges, and other assorted bullets.

Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Muhammad Rabiu, ordered the immediate closure of the premises to allow the EOD unit to conduct a thorough inspection.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to public safety and urged residents to share timely intelligence that could help prevent threats and enhance overall security in the state.

The Commissioner also warned scavengers to stop collecting materials from conflict zones and instructed area commanders to enforce this directive and arrest offenders without delay.
