Police authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have detailed how officers from the Command rejected a ₦1.5 million bribe offered in a bid to secure the release of a kidnap suspect.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that officers arrested 40-year-old Yahaya Saleh after he attempted to bribe investigators.

“Operatives of the FCT Police Command arrested Yahaya Saleh for offering a bribe of ₦1.5 million to secure the release of a suspect currently under investigation for kidnapping,” the statement read.

The arrest followed a covert operation by the Command’s Scorpion Squad, which is leading investigations into a kidnapping syndicate operating in the FCT and surrounding areas. Saleh allegedly approached the investigating officers with the bribe to influence the case and unlawfully secure the suspect’s freedom.

However, the officers demonstrated integrity by refusing the money and immediately initiated legal action, leading to Saleh’s arrest.

An investigation is ongoing to track down other members of the kidnapping group.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, praised the officers for their upright conduct and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, justice, and the fight against corruption.

He urged the public to support law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity and resisting any attempt to subvert justice.
