The Police Command in Kano State has rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim, arrested three suspects, and recovered part of the ransom paid.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday in Kano by the command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.
Kiyawa stated that on April 19, a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala LGA reported that his two-year-old son, Aliyu Muhammad, had been abducted by unidentified individuals in front of their home.
He explained that the suspects later reached out to the family and demanded a ransom of N1 million, which the family paid.
According to Kiyawa, despite collecting the ransom, the kidnappers did not release the child.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, instructed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy all operational and intelligence resources.
Through continuous tracking and a technical operation, the suspects’ hideout was located and they were apprehended.
The suspects—Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24—are all residents of Gwammaja Quarters, Kano.
Investigations showed that the child was kept at the residence of Hussaini Saminu within the same area.
Kiyawa confirmed that the victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.
A total of N930,000, part of the ransom paid, was also recovered from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police praised the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their professionalism, determination, and tactical efficiency in ensuring the safe rescue of the child.
He also acknowledged the support and technical guidance from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which contributed to the success of the operation.
Bakori reaffirmed that under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, the command will continue its aggressive stance against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He warned criminals that Kano State will remain hostile to illegal activities, as the police will use all lawful means to track down and prosecute offenders.
He further advised parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
Members of the public were encouraged to continue providing useful information through the command’s emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
He added that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
