The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the rescue of a three-day-old baby who was abducted, along with the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident.

This was disclosed in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to him, the case was reported in the early hours of March 29 by Aisha Basa, a 19-year-old resident of Ungwan Bako in the Orange Market area of Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.

The young mother explained that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle operator, had been in Lagos for about five months on business.

“She reported that on Saturday, March 28 at about 11:50pm while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her house located on the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her and abducted the baby to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the report, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, Commissioner of Police, directed detectives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division to immediately visit the scene, and ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives on April 3rd, 2026 at about 4:00am arrested two suspects,” he added.

Nansel identified the suspects as 35-year-old Furera Abdulrahman from Rugan Juli and 39-year-old Sadiya Abdullahi from Ungwan Bako, Orange Market.

He said the abducted baby boy was found with the suspects and safely recovered.

The spokesperson added that during questioning, the suspects admitted to the crime and mentioned another accomplice who is still on the run.

“The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined by a medical doctor, certified to be in good health.

“The child has since been reunited with his parents after being discharged from the hospital,” Nansel added.

He further stated that the case remains under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia after initial inquiries are concluded.

Nansel reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
